Aerianna's Self PortraitAt the heart of the cosmos is mystery. Through my artistic process I listen and give voice to the cosmos within and around me, celebrating the sacredness of our world and all interconnected worlds. Dion Fortune defined Magic as manifesting the will with intent. My work is a manifestation of magic; its intent is to speak for a renewed relationship to nature, rather than an isolation from it. I want to communicate a sense of mystery and spirit in the age of linear reason and industrialization, and to celebrate divinity in all living creatures and the earth itself.

I believe that the living world and all its creatures, the body as well as the spirit, and the cycles of nature are sacred. My work explores personal imagery, as well as the rich historical and contemporary language of myth and magic. My images include goddesses, gods, earth, animal and elemental spirits. For me these entities represent particular constellations of power, with whom we are co-creators of transformation and fate. I have been influenced by ancient European mythologies and religion , as well as by Buddhist, Hindu and Christian beliefs. I also use the cycles of nature, the seasons and the concepts of Earth, Air, Fire and Water as sacred elements as starting points for much of my work.

I am primarily a Printmaker. The processes of printmaking, which often seem like alchemy to the uninitiated, become the ritual tools that help create my spiritual vision. Printmaking allows a layering of imagery, color, texture and text that can be achieved in no other media. I combine hand drawing, painting and found objects with the print techniques, to create rich many layered art objects.

I also often use the book as a vehicle for expression. I like the intimate quality of books, and their role as tools, as well as sculptural objects. The viewing or reading of a book is a ritual with which we are all familiar. The sequential process of turning the pages and revealing or discovering what is inside allows the viewer to become co-creator of the meaning.

Through my work I discover my place in the cosmos and activate self-transformation. I hope that the images transport others to a place of mystery and magic and provide a means of reaching the Spirit Worlds that reside within us all.
