Who is Aerianna?
I grew up in Ohio and Arizona, and my most vivid memories of both places are of nature; wandering the woods or the desert, watching the animals and plants, learning about the natural history of each place I lived. I remember my grandmother’s huge vegetable gardens and fruit trees, and my cousin’s horses. I remember playing in the desert, listening to the desert spirits talk to me, and finding evidence of the people who lived there before me. I remember my parents teaching me about the plants and animals, of our hunting for fossils and amethyst.
These memories of the natural world and of the science lessons about my environment were probably my greatest influences; they influenced my values as well as my interests. My childhood allowed me to believe in magic, art and beauty, and made me long to manifest all three in my life.
I have degrees in both architecture and art, though they are more than 20 years apart. I started with architecture and returned to art in my late thirties, and professional gardening in my forties.
I most often describe myself as a Shamanic Artist, and a gardener. I am a full time artist- my art is my magic and much of my magic is art. My studio is in my home in the Mid-Atlantic area. Art for me is about embodying the divine. It is my portal key to other realms and my means of recording prophetic vision.
The other part of my magical practice is very common sense and down to earth. It’s about sustainability- living right sized and in balance.
I am avid gardener, the green ones are my allies- as are crow, and goldfinch, and worm. I spend most of my life outdoors, and my time in the garden or woods provides the inspiration, as well as many of the found objects, for my art.
I have believed in magic since I was a child. The mythologies of Europe and the America’s were not story to me but history. If you listen carefully you can hear the spirit of the land, I can. I have been a formally practicing witch for over 20 years. I am a Reclaiming Initiate and have lived, learned, and taught within the Reclaiming tradition for many years; having been part of mid- Atlantic’s emerging Reclaiming community since1994.
